No Bats in the Belfry

That was a bit of a shock, then.

We just came out from Evensong at Little Tremlett, to be passed by Ned Rochester heading in with his shotgun. I’d heard the pigeon scurrying around during the service and wondered how the poor thing was going to be removed.

20130705_152855Asked if he wouldn’t damage the fabric of the building with the shotgun, Ned replied yes, but Cromwell did worse. So I asked him, given the damage and general mayhem – why use a shotgun? His response was quite chilling, and slightly odd:

“When they hear about it, it’ll make the bats think twice.”
